Bline Corps Writings

by Robert Leslie Newman

Blind Corps is a not-for-profit organization of which I am a member of its board of directors. Below, in addition to some of the materials that I have created for use by Blind Corps, I will give you a preview of the organization's makeup, history and purpose of Blind Corps --- but to learn more, follow this link to THE Blind Corps home page-

--WHAT IS BLIND CORPS?
Blind Corps consists of experienced and dedicated volunteer professionals in the field of work with the blind, organized as a non-profit in October of 2005 with the purpose of addressing the rehabilitation needs of blind people in developing nations. Blind Corps is an I.R.S. 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation.

--BLIND CORPS'S MISSION:
The mission of BLIND CORPS is to share our knowledge and experience of U.S.-developed blindness rehabilitation techniques and tools with blind people and those serving them, including families, friends, and professionals in developing nations.

Blind Corps works for the advancement of the blind of selected countries by engaging the blind themselves, rehabilitation workers, support organizations of the blind, media and government agencies, along with families, friends and employers of the blind. Our goal is to bring economic, social and political equality through educational and technical support.

--STATE OF REHABILITATION FOR THE BLIND:
While the rehabilitation system for the blind in the United States is far from perfect, few places abroad possess the superior resources and approaches to be found in the States. In the U.S.A., quality rehabilitation training centers for the blind have reduced the unemployment rate of their graduates to as low as ten percent. In fact, a few agencies such as the Nebraska Commission for the Blind produce excellent programs that are without comparison across the globe.
